3.0% the Average Increase of the Inflation Rate for January 2018

The monthly report on inflation in Jordan issued by the Department of Statistics indicates that the Consumer Price Average (Inflation) reached 121.7 in January 2018 against 118.2 for January 2017 recorded an increase by 3.0%.The main commodities groups, which contributed to this increase, were “Transport” 8.7% representing 1.2 percentage point “Tobacco and cigarettes” 21.3% representing 0.9 percentage points,  “Rents” 2.9% representing 0.4 percentage point, “fuel and lighting” 4.7% representing 0.2 percentage point and “Health” 6.4% representing 0.1 percentage point .Meanwhile, the main commodities groups which witnessed a decrease in their prices were “Vegetables, Dried and Canned Legumes” 8.6%,  “Yoghurt and its products and eggs” 6.8%, “Fruits and Nuts” 2.1% and “clothes” 0.4%.

The Consumer Price Average for January 2018 has increased by 0.7% compared with the previous month (Dec) 2017.The main commodities groups which contributed to this increase were “Tobacco and cigarettes” 13.5% representing 0.6 percentage point, “meat & poultry” 2.2% representing 0.2 percentage points “Transport” 1.0%  representing 0.1 percentage point,“ Cereals and its Products” 1.7% representing 0.1 percentage points and “Yoghurt and its products and eggs” 1.2% representing 0.1 percentage points. Meanwhile, the main groups which witnessed a decrease in their prices were “Vegetables, Dried and Canned Legumes” 10.2%, “fuel and lighting” 0.1%, “Other services” 0.9% and “sugar and its Products” by 0.1%.
