Household Expenditures & Income Survey
Within the framework of providing economic and social databases that reflect the reality of household expenditure, consumption and income, and in view of the continuous changes in expenditure patterns, income levels and prices in addition to internal and external population movements, it was necessary to update the household expenditure and income survey data as the Department of Statistics was keen to implement This survey periodically, and since its establishment, the Department has conducted several surveys of family expenditures and income in the years 1966, 1980, 1986, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2013, and 2017.
The main objectives of the survey:
- Calculating averages of income and expenditure and the relationship of different economic and social factors with them, such as occupation and educational level of the head of the household.
- Study the distribution of households and individuals according to income and expenditure categories and analyze the factors associated with it.
- Provide data on income and expenditure for the purpose of calculating poverty indicators, identifying characteristics of the poor, and preparing poverty maps.
- Provide weights data (scales) that reflect the relative importance of consumer expenditures items and that are used in preparing the consumer price index.
- Provide a part of the data needed for the national accounts related to final consumption and income of the households sector.
