1.2% the Average Decrease in Agricultural Producers’ Prices during May 2020 Compared with May 2019
The monthly report issued by the Department of Statistics indicates a decrease in the Average Agricultural Producers’ Price Index for May 2020 by 1.3% compared with May 2019. (The Price Index reached 130.5 in May 2020 compared with 132.1 in May 2019).The most significant crops that contributed to this decrease were green lettuce 60.3%, potato 38.2%, green sweet pepper 34.4%, dry onion 32.5%, colored sweet pepper 30.6%, hot pepper 30.5%, okra 23.4%, grape leaves 20.8%, cantaloupe 17.1% and tomato 11.9%, ( the total of their relative importance constituted 56% of the total indicator value).
Meanwhile, there was an increase in the price index of strawberry 86.2%, lemon 78.0%, green garlic 70.8%, squash 57.4%, Jews mallow 39.8%, green maize 35.3%, cucumber 32.6%, bananas27.6 % , peach 24.6% and apricot by 17.0%. (The total of their relative importance constituted 44.0% of the total indicator value.)
The report also shows that the Price Index has increased by 10.0% in May 2020 as compared with April 2020 (the price index reached 130.5 in May 2020 compared with 118.7 in April 2020). The most significant crops that contributed to this increase (the total of their relative importance constituted 11.6%) were mushroom 194.5%, garlic 115.8%, okra 32.6%, strawberry 25.7%, orange 19.1%, peppermint 16.7%, coriander 15.8%, apples 14.8%, grape leaves 9.8%, and green cabbage 8.5%.
