National exports increase by 1.0% and Imports decrease by 11.3%
The statistical data issued by the Department of Statistics indicate that the value of total exports reached JD.5639.7 million during 2020 [i.e., a decrease by 4.5% compared with the same period of 2019]. Meanwhile, the national exports value reached JD.5044.4 Million 2020 [i.e. an increase by 1.0% compared with the same period of 2019]. The value of re-exports reached JD 595.3 million during 2020 which indicates a decrease by 34.6% as compared with the same period of 2019. The imports value reached JD.12077.8 million during 2020, thus decreasing by 11.3% compared with the same period of 2019.
The deficit in the trade balance, which is calculated by deducting the value of imports from the value of total exports, has reached JD.6438.1 million therefore; the deficit has decreased during 2020 by 16.5% compared with the same period of 2019. The imports coverage by total exports has become 46.7% during 2020 while it was 43.4% for the same period of 2019, which means an increase by 3.3 percentage points.
