Aqaba City Population & Housing Census 2007
The Department of Statistics (DoS) has implemented the population census of Aqaba city during December 2007 over two phases: the first was the buildings and housing units’ census which was conducted during the period 24th – 30th November 2007. The second was the population census which was carried out during the period 1st – 7th December 2007.
Although these two censuses were implemented separately, they were combined together during the data processing phase using the computer to link the households with their dwellings and to tabulate their results together.
This census is the first of its kind to be carried out for a single city in Jordan and apart from the rest of the Kingdom. It serves the goals of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) in drawing plans for the region and also in serving the investments worth billions of dollars.
Since the beginning of 2007, the Department of Statistics (DoS) has worked closely with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) to develop plans and other required preparations for implementing the census on schedule. These preparations were accompanied by remarkable cooperation of households and sincere support of all relevant institutions in the city, thus contributing to the success of the census. The preliminary results of the census were released within less than a week after completion of the field work.
This booklet contains ten sections covering the administrative, technical, field and office procedures for all phases and operations of the census.
