Industrial Production Quantities decrease by 8.8% during August 2018

The monthly report issued by the Department of Statistics indicates a decrease in the General Industrial Production Quantities for August 2018 to reach 95.2 against 104.4 for the same month of 2017 recording a decrease by 8.8% as compared with same month 2017. This mainly was a result of a decrease in the production quantities of the manufacturing Industries by 8.64 percentage points with a relative importance of 86.0%, the quantities of electricity production by 0.43 percentage points with a relative importance of 5.8%. Meanwhile, there was an increase in the quantities of the quarrying industries by 0.26 percentage points which has the relative importance of 8.2%

The report also indicates an increase in the industrial index number of the industrial production for August 2018 to reach 95.2 against 94.7 for July 2018 to grow by 0.6%. This has resulted mainly from an increase in the production quantities of the manufacturing Industries by 0.64 percentage points with a relative importance of 86.0 and the quantities of quarrying industries by 0.12 with a relative importance of 8.2% while there was a decrease in the quantities of electricity production by 0.17 percentage points which has the relative importance of 5.8%.

Comparing the index numbers of the 1st 8 months of 2018 shows a decrease in the General Industrial Production Quantities to reach 90.0 against 96.4 for the same period of 2017, representing a decrease of 6.6%. This has resulted from a retreat in the production quantities of the manufacturing Industries by 6.55 percentage points which has the relative importance of 86.0% and the quantities of electricity production by 0.21 percentage points which has the relative importance of 5.8%. While there was an increase in the quantities of the quarrying industries by 0.18 percentage points which has the relative importance 8.2%.
