21.7% the Average Decrease in Agricultural Producers’ Prices during Feb 2018
The data issued by the Department of Statistics indicates a decrease in the Average Agricultural Producers’ Price Index for Feb 2018 by 21.7% compared with Feb 2017. (The Price Index reached 104.2 in Feb 2018 compared with 133.0 in Feb 2017).The most significant crops that contributed to this decrease were tomatoes (81.2%), potato (19.1%), squash (35.4%), eggplants (45.6%), cucumber (13.8%), cauliflower (43.4%), broad beans (33.9%), lemon (18.8%), hot pepper (47.2%) and string beans (30.2%).( the total of their relative importance constituted 66.00% of the total number of the commodities of the total indicator value).
Meanwhile, there was an increase in the price index of strawberry, onion, orange, parsley, cabbage, scallion, banana, mandarin, sweet pepper and pommel by (60.3%), (85.6%), (13.3%), (174.2%), (39.9%), (37.6%), (11.0%), (11.0%), (12.7%) and (20.5%) respectively (the total of their relative importance constituted 34.00% of the total indicator value ) .
The report also shows that the Price Index has increased by 31.2% in Feb 2018 as compared with Jan 2018 (the price index reached 104.2 in Feb 2018 compared with 79.4 in Jan 2018). The most significant crops that contributed to this increase (the total of their relative importance constituted 46.28%) were cucumber (19.6%), grape leaves (288.5%), cabbage (35.9%), cauliflower (29.2%), tomato (17.3%), string beans (28.1%), colored sweet pepper (25.1%), carrot (19.6%), radish (20.8%) and banana (5.9%). Meanwhile, there was a decrease in the price index of potato, orange, lemon, broad beans, lettuce, spinach, hot pepper, arugula, turnip and eggplants by (29.8%),(16.7%),(22.0%),(27.5%),(24.4%),(6.8%),(5.4%),(34.5%),(13.4%) and (2.3%) respectively with a relative importance of 53.68%. The relative importance for the crops which their prices haven’t any change (mandarin orange) reached 0.04% of the total indicator value.
On the accumulative level, the Price Index of Agricultural Producers has decreased by 18.4% for the first two months of 2018 as compared with the same period of 2017 (the accumulative price index reached 91.8% for 2018 compared with 112.6 for the same period of 2017). The most significant crops whose Price Index Average contributed to this decrease were tomato by (76.7%), cauliflower (52.5%), eggplants (46.8%), hot pepper (42.1%), squash (33.3%), string beans (31.7%), potato (18.1%), colored sweet pepper (3.9%), green sweet pepper (3.5%) and cucumber (2.6%), whose relative importance constituted 93.6%. Meanwhile, there was an increase in the price index of banana by (4.8% ) with a relative importance of 9.3%.
